Piece of Cake 3 Part 1

I have started my second quilt! I am using the Piece of Cake 3 pattern which I got as part of the the Craftsy class Pre-Cut Piecing Made Simple. I’ve only just started by cutting out the fabric pieces and figuring out how I want my blocks to look. This is becoming one of my favorite parts of quilting–playing with the fabric.

While on the floor, sorting through the strips to make my blocks, my grandpa walked by to watch me and said with a smile, “You’re very much still a little girl. You like to play.”

I am firmly in adulthood, my friends, but yes, there is something about making that brings us back to our childhood–a time of wonder and exploration. I hope to never lose the kid inside of me.

While there is such joy in making, there is also frustration. I expect there to be a lot of frustration as I continue to work on this quilt. Like I said, it is only my second. Many mistakes are ahead of me but I’m going to try and go with the flow. Plus, I tell myself the imperfections will make it unique. This quilt is already destined for a home as I told my two young nieces that I am making it for them. They get so excited as they watch my progress so I can’t wait to see their faces when I finish it.

Here’s to hoping it doesn’t turn into a disaster!
